Warri South: Ensure Safety of Your Communities, CP Delta State Charges 250 Vigilantes/Anti-Cult Volunteer

Thursday December 12 2024. The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, PSC, has charged the selected 250 vigilante/anti-cult as well as hunters in Warri South Local Government Area, set to undergo training, to ensure the safety of communities in Warri South, saying: “The powers that will be given to you, is not to oppress your people, but a call to service.” CP Olufemi, who gave the charge in Warri, Delta State, Thursday December 12, during the flag-off ceremony of the training of vigilantes/Anti-cult volunteers in Warri South Local Government Area, emphasized: “You should know that every service has a terminal date. Every year or two, we will do a review of those you have brought into the system, do a re-screening for those who have not met the requirement /standards, to be screened out and better hands to be brought in.” The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, in his remarks, stated that Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas, have been experiencing improved security situation in these ember months, compared to the past years. Whilst noting that security and welfare of the citizens are the primary responsibilities of government, the Warri South Local Government Chief Security Officer, explained: “In our opinion, we felt that if vigilante must work with us, we needed to know who they are. We needed to have the details of their bio-data in our system. “We didnt want a situation where anybody would just put on the vigilante uniform and claim to be who they are not, this is the motive behind the profiling. “The curriculum for which this training exercise is to be conducted, have been technically mapped out in such a way that at the end of the exercise, the vigilante/anti-cult members, will no longer be what they are. After the training, each person will be given a certificate and I.D Card. “The issue of the I.D. Card, is to cement their working relationship with the system, such that if any of them is found wanting, both I.D card and certificate will be taken from them.” ACP Graham Imade, PhD, had noted: “Before you, are 250 vigilante/anti-cult as well as hunters in Warri South Local Government. They were screened by a committee I set up, checked by my TYC C.S.P Bello, supported by the DPO ‘A’ and ‘B’ Divisions, Warri area. “After exhaustive screening, we came to a total of 250 persons. Today, we have been able to develop a full plan, and we are also giving them three days orientation of what vigilante is all about. The training by the grace of God, will kick-start on Monday December 16th at Egbokodo Multi-purpose hall, Warri South Local Government Area.”
